What are we learning? Religion: Religion class is my favorite class to teach! This year we discuss our beliefs as Catholics, study Scripture, pray together and learn different forms of prayer, understand God’s forgiveness through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and most importantly, celebrate First Communion as a parish family. Reading/ELA: Every week in Reading/ELA we will have a new story (and spelling words) from the Journeys curriculum. The stories, activities, and tests are very similar to those used in first grade. Each week, 3-4 days will be spent in small groups to promote deeper, more individualized learning. Friday tests cover: Spelling, Vocabulary, Comprehension, Phonics, and Grammar. All second-grade students will participate in Falcon Time either with myself, Mrs. Kallenberg, or Mrs. Campos. These 30 minutes (3-4 days a week) are devoted to independent reading, Accelerated Reader quizzes, and small group instruction. Math: We begin the year with a review of first-grade content and then move on to strengthening our addition and subtraction skills. We also cover number lines, word problems, money, time, measurement, and geometry. Every math class begins with Math Boxes (4 questions using a variety of math skills) and Math Box Quizzes are given weekly. **Addition and Subtraction flash cards are available if you did not purchase them last year. ($6/box) Science, Social Studies & Health: These subjects will rotate and be integrated into other subjects throughout the year.
About our class… We have 14 friends in our class (5 boys, 9 girls). BIRTHDAYS: birthday treats are welcome; however, please no peanut butter. TRANSPORTATION CHANGES: please send in a handwritten note with the date and change – please send it in the day of the appointed change. Scholastic Book Club Code QH2LG
