This Week: September 4-7
We have had a wonderful few weeks! I love getting to know each one of these "Fantastic Falcons."
This week in...
Religion: We learned about the Seven Sacraments in the Catholic Church and how they help us develop in every stage of life. We learned that a sacrament is a special sign of God's grace given to us by Jesus, and that grace is God's life in us. We also celebrated Jesus' mother, Mary's birthday on Friday! Her birthday is on September 8th.
Reading/ELA: We wrapped up Henry and Mudge and took our first test on ThinkCentral. Passwords will be coming home in the Friday Folder. We also discussed how to write strong 8-word sentences and focused on story sequence in reading groups. We began reading our next text Dogs which is an informational text on what pets need to be happy and healthy. This leads us into our Animal Project that will begin next week!
Math: We finished up Chapter 1 and will be testing on Monday, September 10. Students have reviewed in class and will come home with a review page to complete over the weekend. Chapter 2 will extend our understanding of number sense and place value with numbers up to 1,000. Please encourage your child to practice their math flash cards on a regular basis.
Science: We continued our readings on inquiry skills and the scientific process. Students learned the five steps which will be assessed next week. They are: Ask a Question, Make a Hypothesis, Plan an Investigation, Do it! and Draw Conclusions, and Communicate or Share Information and Data.
Social Studies: We dove into our first magazine on North America and discussed different types of maps, waters, continents, and landforms. We are explorers just like Amerigo Vespucci!
***Christian Service Logs are also coming home this Friday. These should be returned by November 1st.
Next Week: September 10-14
Religion: We will return to our Blessed textbook and video series and converse on how to become the best version of ourselves. We will discuss how being the best you can be helps you to learn what God has planned.
Reading/ELA: We will read Dogs and compare and contrast important facts. We will also discuss Author's Purpose and how that helps us know the genre of a text. Students will be writing descriptive paragraphs about the basic needs of living things - especially pets and animals. *New spelling words have been posted, test on Monday.
Math: We will test on Chapter 1 on Monday and begin chapter 2 on Tuesday.
9/17 we have finished up to section 2.7
Science: We will start our Animal Project and study of ecosystems and habitats! More details to come!
Social Studies: We will wrap up our North America magazine and practice labeling a map of North America.
