November 5-9
Religion: We dove into the 5 Steps of a Good Confession! They are: 1. Examine your conscience 2. Confess your sins to the priest 3. Receive a Penance 4. Recite the Act of Contrition 5. Receive Absolution Reading: We read Ugly Vegetables by Grace Lin and looked at the differences between gardens of vegetables and flowers. We also worked with ck words and words with double consonants. The spelling test will be on Monday and the Reading test will be on Wednesday. Math: We started Chapter 4 which takes our addition skills to the next level. We will be using words like "carry" and "regroup." Please feel free to look on Think Central to preview the material being covered. There are many different methods the students are expected to learn so that the process of addition/subtraction makes sense for each student. Please email or call me with any questions! Science: We discussed what plants and gardens need to grow. Social Studies: We made grid maps of our "Dream Classroom" or "Dream Bedroom." We also started our third magazine on America's Beginning which talks about some of the foundations of our great nation. November 2-16 + November 17th is First Reconciliation!!!! Religion: We will be practicing the words and the 5 Steps of a Good Confession. We will be making Act of Contrition flip books to use as needed during Reconciliation. Reading: We will start reading our first folktale, How Chipmunk Got His Stripes by Joseph Bruchac! This will prepare us for writing our very own folktales and fables! This is one of my favorite Reading projects of the year! Math: We will continue with Chapter 4. We will use the "make a ten" strategy more with regrouping and carrying tens. Science: Break from Science :) We may squeeze in one last review of ecosystems! Social Studies: We will be studying the Native American cultures and how their traditions have led to stories, art and history! |
