We had a great first week! I hope your children enjoyed it as much as I did. This week we focused a lot on procedures and getting to know each other. I also completed some informal assessments to guide my future lesson planning. This upcoming week leads to some big changes in 2K.
Math:
We began our first Chapter in Math. Each day we will complete another lesson. The first Chapter begins with some Algebra and reviewing Even and Odd Numbers. It covers Standard CC.2.OA.3: Work with equal groups of objects to gain foundations for multiplication.
Reading:
Next week we will begin our Journeys series with "Henry and Mudge". The Target is to dive into realistic fiction. it Covers standard L.2.6: Use words and phrases acquired through conversations, reading, and being read to, and responding to texts. We will also begin our Cinderella Story year long study.
Religion:
We began our brand new series "Blessed" This new series focuses on preparation of the sacraments while supporting the children's growth in personal faith.
Social Studies:
This week we will be doing our new social studies booklet. This is a once a moth in depth study of a topic. Look for them in the following weeks Friday folder.
Spelling:
Starting next week you will always be able to find the current spelling list on this site. Please practice the words weekly. the test will be on the following Monday
Homework:
You can expect to see some homework coming home on Monday. It will be a Mystery Picture Grid as well as a spelling list. You can expect to see these every week until the end of the year and they will always be due on Friday. The spelling homework is broken down into 3 lessons. The first day the students are asked to simply write the words 5 times. The second day they are asked to put the words in alphabetical order, and the third day they are asked to write the word in a sentence. The students should attempt to do this on their own. The Mystery Picture will change every week. The students should do their very best work, but they do not need to be perfect to get full credit. These will increase in difficulty as the year continues. Homework IS graded, but unless they completely disregard it, it will not affect their total grade. Homework is meant as a tool to encourage student learning. It is not an assessment.
Go Folder:
Go folder will include daily reading, math and geography practice. At the end of the week the students will be assessed on their daily practice. Go folder aligns to our standards as well as state standards. It is being implemented in order to support the curriculum we have in place here at St. Chris as well as prepare them for the standardized tests in the future.
Accelerated Reading:
We will begin accelerated reading in a few weeks! Keep an eye out for more information.
