Hello! The first two weeks of school have flown by! We have already had a fish wedding, a spelling test, completed the first math and reading chapters, and are finishing up our first unit of social studies. Layla had a good first day with the kiddos as well! Monday we painted our noses in order to remember that God made us all different and we need to celebrate those differences.
Coming up:
Math:
We already dove into Chapter 2 in our Go! Math Series. We will continue working on number sense and basic algebra functions. Please practice Math facts with your child. These foundation skills are imperative to your child's success in 2nd grade! Remember you can always log onto Think central to check it out!

Reading:
This upcoming week we will continue in our Journeys series with " Dogs". This story explores our furry friends and the many jobs and purposes they have! They will be working on breaking down non-fiction informational texts. A perfect introduction to research!
Religion:
Next week’s lessons focus on being the best version of yourself. God made us who we are and we honor him by being our best selves. We discuss Happiness and free-will and how sinning is a decision that we make. Please feel free to talk about sin at home.
Science:
We have begun our big animal project for the year. Your kiddos were each assigned a habitat and will begin an in depth study of an animal in that habitat. Please keep an eye out for more information!
Spelling:
Starting next week you will always be able to find the current spelling list on this site. Please practice the words weekly. The test will be on the following Monday.
Homework:
You can expect to see some homework coming home on Monday. It will be a Mystery Picture Grid as well as a spelling list. You can expect to see these every week until the end of the year and they will always be due on Friday. The spelling homework is broken down into 3 lessons. The first day the students are asked to simply write the words 5 times. The second day they are asked to put the words in alphabetical order, and the third day they are asked to write the word in a sentence. The students should attempt to do this on their own. The Mystery Picture will change every week. The students should do their very best work, but they do not need to be perfect to get full credit. These will increase in difficulty as the year continues. Homework IS graded, but unless they completely disregard it, it will not affect their total grade. Homework is meant as a tool to encourage student learning. It is not an assessment.
Go Folder:
Go folder will include daily reading, math and geography practice. At the end of the week the students will be assessed on their daily practice. Go folder aligns to our standards as well as state standards. It is being implemented in order to support the curriculum we have in place here at St. Chris as well as prepare them for the standardized tests in the future.
Accelerated Reading:
We will begin accelerated reading in a few weeks! Keep an eye out for more information.
